RFU Community Update February 2019.
Current cold weather, sees the RFU reminding everyone of the World Rugby Law and RFU Regulations for the wearing of base layers, particularly by Age Grade players.
RFU Regulation 15 – Age Grade Rugby
15.10 Clothing
15.10.1 Age grade players are permitted to wear base layers provided they comply with the World Rugby Regulatory requirements which are available on World Rugby's website.
World Rugby Law 4 – Players’ Clothing
4.4 In addition, women may wear:
• Chest pads.
• Cotton blend long tights, with single inside leg seam under their shorts and socks.
• Headscarves, providing they do not cause a danger to the wearer or other players.
The Rugby Safe Essential Guide provides guidance on base layers within the FAQs. Some referees not regularly officiating age grade games may not being aware of the difference between the male adult game, where leggings are not permitted, and women’s and age grade rugby so please share this communication widely to ensure better understanding across the whole game.
