Oxfordshire Sport & Physical Activity is pleased to inform you that we will be launching an exciting programme to upskill coaches in first selective environments, i.e. coaches working at the foundation or lower tier of the talent pathway:-
In conjunction with UK Coaching, OxSPA will be offering a programme that will give coaches access to an exclusive support package , this will include support via a local Talent Coach Developer and access to a specific CPD programme exploring key areas of talent.
The Offer
Coaches who engage in the programme will receive the following:
What is Talent? - On this course you will share current academic research regarding giftedness and talent, explore the concepts of nature versus nurture, the interaction of biological, psychological and social factors, and the links to mindset. You will be checked and challenged to reflect on the talent systems you work within, and share your experiences with coaches from other sports - Sunday 1st Oct 09.30 – 13.30 . Talent across the Ages - Explores the biological, (maturation & development, relative age effect) and social characteristics of the stages of athlete development and how these need to be considered when developing your coaching sessions. It looks at the non-linear and uniqueness of each athlete’s journey, the challenges they face and how coach and athlete mindsets can affect this. A Head for Talent - Looks at the mental side of athlete development, including growth mindset, insights into developing resilience and mental toughness and looks at the concept of athletes having Grit. Tues 7th Nov 19.00 – 21.00, Venue Oxford City Athletics Club, Horspath Road, OX4 2RR
Getting Better Better - focuses on how to maximise your training sessions through the consideration of purposeful and deliberate practice, skill development, constraints-led coaching and how you might challenge your athlete. For your information, attendance at individual workshops is normally £30 per head which underlines the added value you are getting from the programme i.e. mentoring support, engaging and interacting with other coaches, resources and signposting to additional support and expertise at Oxford Brookes University Sport Science Unit
A blended approach to learning will enable coaches to gain great insight enabling reflection of their current coaching practice and identifying areas for further development.
The Cost
There will be a one off cost of £100 per person to commit to the programme. This includes the series of 4 workshops (usual cost £30 per workshop), a minimum of 2 session observations with your Coach developer and feedback and a personal development plan going forward. In addition there will be continuing informal support from your mentor by phone/email etc.
