Community Update April 2019
Demand has been so high for the RFU Level 3 coaching course that, although we enrolled a record number of coaches and a 25% increase for 2019/20, some coaches missed out. The course involves year long mentoring support for each coach in their own coaching environment so numbers enrolled is dependent on the number of qualified mentors available. Based on this year’s demand we will be working to grow this further next year.
Entry requirements were changed to have a greater impact on player experience and retention. With open access, places were allocated on a first come/first served basis. However, coaches from across all parts of the game are still required to demonstrate the same standards as previously to successfully complete the course.
Through the 2019/20 season we will be providing around 2,500 courses nationwide, tens of thousands of hours of mentoring support, outstanding digital content and further growing our eLearning offer. Premiership Rugby clubs are offered thousands of places on club specific coach development courses and via the England Rugby Coaches Association there will be additional coach development opportunities.
