Women defeat Hertfordshire in final match of 2016 County Championship Plate.
Oxfordshire Ladies defeated Hertfordshire in a close fought battle at Gosford All Blacks RFC on Sunday afternoon. Having gone into half time 7-0 down the Ladies slowly fought back with three unanswered second half penalties from Carly Dudding proving enough for Oxfordshire to run out 9-7 winners. Thoughts below from Head Coach, Gary Morris and Oxfordshire RFU President, Chris White:
The Ladies finished second out of the four teams in the London and South East Plate table and will look to build on this successful season in 2017.

What a difference a week makes. On Sunday the Ladies gelled together as a squad, working hard and upping their game, as individuals, and as a team. The score 9 – 7 to Oxon reflects what a hard game it was. Yes, Herts scored the only try of the game, that saw plenty of offloading and changes in direction after Oxon gave away a penalty some 40m out and weren’t quick enough to get organised. But 3 penalty kicks by Carly, the last one, 2 minutes from time, sealing the win and reflected the tremendous effort that all put into game. The match saw a new dimension to our game, that being the game management, those decisions made by Anne and Carly, who both directed the team around the park, were done calmly and with plenty of encouragement to all.
Everything we have set out to do this season, we have achieved or are in the process of achieving. My thanks to George Merry and Chris White, for their support and recognising what the ladies are trying to achieve. Emily, our physio, for keeping them all strapped up and looking after the ladies. Also thanks to my coaches Nick, Robbie, Oakley and Chris, for their help and support throughout the competition. The support at Gosford today was fantastic and most importantly, Ladies it’s been a pleasure working with you all this season, hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Chris White
