What is Project Phoenix?
Rugby union is a game for all schools – all schools can play, all young people in the school can play and rugby has an impact on all of the school. Project Phoenix has been developed to increase the amount of rugby in Oxfordshire schools and to encourage new players to join local clubs.
A key element of Project Phoenix is promotion of the positive difference rugby and its core values can make in terms of social good and giving young people a greater chance in life.
What is its purpose?
Project Phoenix is a two-year intervention (with an option of an additional 3 years subject to funding) with delivery taking place between September and December 2016 (Year One) and September and December 2017 (Year Two) respectively. Each school will be provided with a bespoke delivery plan, package of resource and support, linked to the local club, which helps it to start and then sustain rugby union.
The aim is to help create a self-sustaining rugby-playing school with strong club links mapped as part of a Local Rugby Partnership. Project Phoenix is essentially a targeted club-school outreach solution to bring the game, culture and ethos to new audiences, all helping us to strengthen our clubs and grow the game in the communities around them.
