Job Description
The Assistant Coach will work in a team under the direction of the Under 18s Head Coach who reports to the Oxfordshire Aspirational Delivery Director. Evidence of experience and knowledge of developing play and players within the team’s back division is essential
Roles and Responsibilities
- To be a member of the coaching team responsible for the age group.
- Plan, prepare and deliver individual coaching sessions for the age group squad.
- Ensure that all sessions are designed to develop the skills and understanding of the players in the squad.
- Evaluate all the coaching sessions and games with the coaching team, team manager and players.
- Attend all trials, coaching sessions, matches and grading meetings involved with the age group squad.
- Work with the age group Coach Mentor to improve their performance.
- The Assistant Coach should be committed to furthering his/her coaching skills and be willing to commit to a programme of professional development provided by Oxfordshire Performance Director / RFU.
- Provide feedback to coaches, team management, players and parents.
- Contribute to the writing of an end of season report by the team manager.
Skills and Qualities
- Commitment and Enthusiasm – this position will require a time commitment involving both evenings and weekends for training and matches.
- Punctuality – Coaches sets the standard for the players.
- Planning – The Assistant Coach will work with the U18 Head Coach in planning the coaching programme for the season as well as individual sessions.
- Leadership – The Assistant Coach sets an example and standards for the squad. As such he/she will need to inspire the players to ensure that they all reach their potential. He/she may need to make difficult decisions about selection and grades etc.
- Team Work – The Assistant Coach needs to be able to work effectively with the players, parents, coaches, manager and the Aspirational Delivery Director.
- Rugby Knowledge – It is expected that the Assistant Coach will have attained or be working towards the RFU Coaching level prescribed in the Oxfordshire coach pathway model. He/she must have the required knowledge to assist the players to achieve their potential.

2. Coaches cannot be an official coach of more than one county team.
