Message from Nigel Flynn:
My name is Nigel Flynn, the newly appointed RFU Oxfordshire County Safeguarding Manager. It is a pleasure to have joined the RFU and particularly the Safeguarding team, I consider myself honoured to take this opportunity to join a well established team and look forward to taking my position forward. I am currently coaching under elevens at Banbury Rugby Club and have been involved at the club both as a player and coach for the last 7 years. My background and employment is within the Criminal Justice system with 11 years of legal experience, recently achieving an Hons degree in Criminal Justice. I am aware of how safeguarding within the sporting world has evolved and how important the governance responsibility for all rugby clubs must be supported by the county. The roles of the CB Safeguarding manager and Safeguarding officers must be clearly understood and supported by both the clubs, players, coaches, parents and the patrons.
I am looking forward to taking this role and maintaining the good work already achieved by previous managers and also moving forward in the development of the role to achieve any set compliance targets set by the RFU within the county.
To echo the thoughts of Richard Smallbone;
Compliance with the RFU regulations are a required element of the club Accreditation Scheme and for providing comfort to parents that their children are attending sessions where clubs and coaches are aware and employ the highest elements of best practice, these details can be found at www.englandrugby.com
