After being reformed at the start of the 2018-2019 season.
Sunday 11th November 2018 saw Oxford RFC Ladies take part in their first competitive game since being reformed at the start of the 2018-2019 season.
Oxford Ladies joined forces with Oxford Brookes University RFC to play a development game against the Oxford University Panthers at Marston Sports Fields.
The format of the development game was four x 20 minute quarters, with each quarter providing opportunities to try out various playing positions. For many of those who took part, it was their first taste of a competitive rugby match; with the afternoon providing some excellent experiences and useful coaching tips for players both old and new.
The event was a fantastic showcase for women’s rugby in Oxfordshire with the day being made up almost entirely of ladies; from the players to the match officials. The Ladies teams are predominantly led by female coaches, Pat Metcalfe-Jones at Oxford Brookes University RFC, Fran Ronan with Oxford University Panthers, and Fran and Polly Richardson assisting at Oxford RFC Ladies . The game was refereed by Anna Bidgood from Oxford University RFC; her first game having recently passing the England Rugby Referee Award (Level 2).
It was a great day for all the ladies involved, and was incredible to see the passion, growth and expansion of the development sector of ladies rugby in Oxford.
