Oxfordshire RFU offer an exciting volunteer opportunity to support our young player development pathways by providing safeguarding support to each age-group.
Reports To: Oxfordshire RFU Performance Directors Male & Girls and Oxfordshire RFU Safeguarding Manager
Key Relationships: Oxfordshire RFU Performance Director Male and Performance Director Girls, Oxfordshire RFU Safeguarding Manager, Performance Group Coach Development Director, Performance Group Admin Director & Age group Head Coaches
Nature of the Role:
To provide leadership and guidance in the Safeguarding of Children and Young People in Rugby Union across the activities of the Representative Age Groups - Under 14s to Under 18s years male, and Under 13s to Under 18s girls; maintaining key relationships with the Oxfordshire RFU Safeguarding Manager
The Performance Group Safeguarding Manager should ideally possess a RFU DBS Enhanced Disclosure, two contactable references and be prepared to undertake appropriate RFU Safeguarding training courses; "Play It Safe" and "In Touch".
The Performance Group Safeguarding Manager will ideally have a background in safeguarding and child protection from any of the statutory agencies; such as Police, Social Services, Children’s services; or may have linkage with club / school requirements in this area.
The person should also have a range of key skills and attributes including:

•resilience and dedication to the cause of safeguarding young people.
In return, the appointed individual will receive support from Oxfordshire RFU Safeguarding Manager in the form of potential training needs and regular mentoring and monitoring and communications. Additionally he / she will receive resources to support them in the delivery of this role.
Key tasks:
• To be an active member of the Oxfordshire RFU Performance Group at management and local level;
• To offer support and guidance to Representative Squads;
• Offer guidance & support to Performance Group coaches and develop robust Safeguarding procedures in respect to the various age groups;
• To develop and co-ordinate an effective and efficient programme of an effective DBS processing and Safeguarding training, in conjunction with Club Safeguarding Officers and/or the RFU Rugby Development Officer, for Performance Group coaches involved in working with young people (i.e. "Play It Safe" and "In Touch");
• To be the Safeguarding advisor for the Oxfordshire RFU Performance pathways;
• To ensure that all Safeguarding issues and incidents involving adult(s) and children/ young people under 18 are reported promptly to the Oxfordshire RFU Safeguarding Manager and the Oxfordshire RFU Hon Secretary;
• To monitor, on an annual basis, at least two of the Performance Group coaches in action
• To distribute literature, electronic communication and new developments concerning the Safeguarding of young people to the Oxfordshire RFU Performance Group Coaches as appropriate.
